Whole bunch in stock at low prices at local collectors shop.  Are they generally worth a darn?

I've owned quite a few rifles (91/30) and carbines (m38,m44,m91/59) over the years. Sold them all off except one 91/30, a really nice 1921 hex receiver, just to have.

they are pretty fun to shoot and relatively inexpensive to shoot. For the most part, accuracy is not bad. For the price, they're nice to gather a few....just cuz.

I wouldn't try to convert it to a sporter or anything, it's just not worth it in my opinion. Just shoot them as is and have fun. You can always sell again down the road or just tuck in the back of the safe, either way, you're never really out much $$

Yes. (In answer to your question about being worth it.) As noted, cheap to shoot. I have two M38's and a 91/30. The long one is quite accurate. Good iron sights on them. Built very robustly if not prettily and lots of info on maintenance, etc. on the web. Downside is the safety is high-effort. I wouldn't want to try a quick shot sneak hunting in brush at a deer with mine. Not that I'm very good at that with *anything* however...  :D

Good cheap gun IMO. Have fun! Agree with previous poster, I wouldn't mess with/sporterize it, just shoot it as is... Cool history. Once you learn and decipher the different dates and makes and marks, collecting can be a hazard to your wallet.

Great guns. Most are good shooters as long as they still have riflings left in them. I've owned several over 20 years and I still hunt with one.

I've got a 1943 91/30.  It shoots better than I can (which doesn't say much  ;D )
I put the ATI Monte Carlo stock on it, but other than that it is original.  The stock helped a lot with recoil.
I've shot surplus ammo, cheap Russian commercial ammo, and Winchester 180gr SP ammo through it.  It likes the surplus for accuracy, but that's the ammo it was designed for.
