model 1891 ammo
« on: January 23, 2004, 09:33:50 AM »
Surplus ammo is regularly posted in the "Shotgun News"
I would not rebarrel or rechamber it though,
the 7.65 is one of the best designed of the Mauser cartridges.
it is only slightly less powerful than the 30-06 in military
configuration. it is slightly more powerful than the 308
due to a larger case capacity. Usable cases can be made
from 30-06 Or any of the "Long" cartridges the '06'
was the parent of. The Belgians used the 7.65x53 also,
but the cases are a bit different when measured.

I do have one that is rechambered to 30-06 and one that isn't its still 7.65 Argentine  which i did buy one case of ammo for its a 1891 carbine that was made here by YE OLD GUN SHOP in LA. back in the 60's. They took 1891's long rifles and cut them down and made carbines.  They also have swept back bolts its a neat little gun and I'm afraid to shoot it.  Because if it grows on me and i like it I'm going to need plenty of 7.65 ammo??  I did think about rechambering it but I just been too busy playing with others it just sits in the safe.  But I could reload for the 7.65 if I like shooting it?  So many options and so little time I just been too busy??                                                                  BigBill
