Lightly used 1995 (NJ prefix) 223 range test
« on: November 04, 2009, 09:32:44 AM »
I just got this rifle and did a small range test today. I lately have been buying some of the steel cased Monarch 55 gr. ammo so I decided to try it in this rifle. I mounted a Nikon Prostaf 3x9 on it, thoroughly cleaned the barrel just because and went to shooting on my 50 yard range.  The first 4-5 shots were sighters and were not all that consistant, probably from the serious cleaning. After that it really started shooting. Once I got the hang of the somewhat heavy trigger I was shooting 3/8ths center to center groups, often a little all touching triangle. This more than surprises me as the ammo shot so poorly in my Superlite 223 barrel.  This stuff may come in handy for some feral hog head and neck shooting which i always do at less than 50 yards. Anyone have experience shooting hogs with the Monarch 55 grl load which has a steel jacket?
