What model did Clint Eastwood use?
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:02:03 AM »
The one he carried in a shoulder holster in the movie "The Outlaw Josie Wales."  I was watching it again last night and played name that pistol.   :P   Then I got to thinking about it again just now while reading another member's thread.  He was talking about his new 1849.

It seems to me the movie played pretty loose with the same people carrying cap and ball or cartridge conversion pistols depending on the scene.  Other then that it appeared that Eastwood carried a pair of Dragoons in hip holsters, an 1860 Army or '61 Navy in his belt, and at least a brace of 1860's in saddle (horn) holsters.

But for some reason I didn't pay that close attention to the shoulder holster gun.  As I think about it, it appeared to be one of the, what 1862 - '63,  .36 cal, 5 shot "Police" versions...  Anybody know?   :-\

If you do know the answer to this bit of trivia, then tell me, were they originals, Pietta's or Uberti's!?    ;);D

Richard,

Here is a list of all the weapons supposedly used in the movie, although I'm not sure if it is accurate. I'll leave that to you to figure out: ;)

    * 1 Colt Walker 1847
    * 2 Colt 1860 Army
          2.1 Standard
          2.2 Loading Gate Conversion
          2.3 Richards Cartridge Conversion
          2.4 Richards-Mason Cartridge Conversion
    * 3 Colt 1849 Pocket
    * 4 Colt 1851 Navy
    * 5 Sharps 1863 Cavalary Carbine
    * 6 Sharps 1865 Sniper Rifle
    * 7 Trapdoor Springfield 1873
    * 8 Colt 1872 Gatling Gun
    * 9 Springfield 1861
    * 10 Enfield 1853
    * 11 Howitzer Cannon

Here's a link to the entire article. It's one of those movie sites. Hope it helps you get this issue resolved:

Well, I'd say you made some very good, logical, guesses. You were actually really close.

Traditions has a Jossie Wales model now that is 36 cal.  Don't know if there is any basis for this or if it is a sales gimmic.  I wonder if Clint is getting any money for them.

As if he needs it!  LOL
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.
