The tires I have on the van are Michelin,P235/70R16. They have 77,000 plus miles on them, so will change them here before winter. I've had Firestone,Cooper,Goodyear tires, and to be honest, really didn't have any problems with any of them. What I'm thinking of going to, are a P245 tire, as a heavier rating for weight. Not really concerned about the ride, as with 1100 to 1400 lbs in it most of the time, it rides pretty good anyway.
Just wondering if there are any suggestions anybody might have. A friend of mine has some Yokahama tires(??) and claims that they are pretty good. I've never heard of them. 90% of my driving is expressway and interstate. So the one thing I think is when I get new tires is to have them high speed balanced, since most of my driving is 65mph. gypsyman

Michelin uses one of the hardest compounds on their tires as evidenced by yours having 77000 on them. If you are happy with the performance of them, why change brands? Harder tires wear longer, but have worse traction when cold, or on wet roads. If you are satisfied with michelins, you would not be happy with firestone or bridgestone when you are replacing them in 45000 miles.

I bought some Goodyear Tracker II's at Walmart to go on my three farm trucks. They have held up well and are made in USA. They were much cheaper than anything I found. I hate to buy from Walmart, but the price was the best i found even better than the no name stuff.

Have been running "Toyos" on both jeeps and P/U, son in law runs them on his F350 4x4 in the back country most of the time and has been like me very happy/

+1 on the Toyos, if you have a Les Schwab dealer, you won't find a better tire for the money than their Open Country, or better service and warranty, I've been using their tires for over 30yrs, never been disappointed.

Since Walmart was mentioned....
I buy my tires at Walmart simply because I am on the road plenty in my pickup and whenever I need a repair a Walmart is not far away.
I used to do the same at Sears but I have a much harder time finding Sears auto centers while on the road.
For a vehicle that does not get far from home I would choose to buy local

Same deal here...Have run Michelins on 7-8 different vehicles for the past 25 years or so, never had a flat, no problems...

I just went out and priced a set of the LTX-MS for my 1998 GMC truck...$209/tire...

Wranglers are $109/tire, plus we have a Goodyear plant here in town and a buddy can get me a discount of $20/tire...

Please tell me why I shouldn't try the Goodyears...

I been pretty happy with the Michelin's. Good wear and no trouble. It's just that knowing how much money there is in advertising, is it worth it to pay $209 for Michelin's seeing their ad on the weather channel every 5 minute's, or spending money on another brand that is probably as good, for less money. gypsyman

Everyone has there own ideas when it comes to tire brands, I have owned several sets of goodyear tires and have had trouble with them wearing out to fast and have had trouble with keeping them balanced all those were on passenger tires. I drive a truck for a living and the company I drive for uses only goodyear and we have the same problem at work with keepin them balanced. I have a goodyear plant 30 miles away and will never buy goodyears with my hard earned money, michelins are on my wifes and I have firestone on my pickup. Ask around and see if anyone else has trouble with keepin them balanced.

+1 x2 and even more.

I put on Michelins and never look back. They wear very well and give good traction. I get my $ worth out of 'em every time.

Admittedly, I don't know where they are made, but I like my BF Goodrich ATs. They last for years.

bought a set of bridgeston duelers at the recomendation of my dealer and consumer guide. They had good traction but only lasted about 30000 miles. I went back to bf goodrich. Ive owned many sets of all terain and mud terain goodriches and theyve allways had excellent traction and great tread life. Ive got a set of all terains on the jeep and mud terains on the pickup now and couldnt be happier.

I will second the Goodyear balance issues. I have fought balance problems with every Goodyear I've owned or been associated with. Bridgestone and Michelin have given zero problems. Michelin give long service but do poorly in the traction dept. My Bridgestones wear a bit faster but are stuck to the road much better. The Uni-T seems to work as advertised, my tires are getting pretty thin now and I cannot tell through the steering wheel on wet roads. I'll be buying the third set of Revos late this fall I figure.

Are the balance issues the result of long time between rotations?
I know it is overkill but on my diesel I rotate the tires while the oil is draining out every oil change. I do seem to get good life out of the tires and do not get them balanced often

A tire going out of balance has more to do with shifting or lost wheel weights than the tire wearing. Whenever I had a tire needing rebalanced it was because I lost a wheel weight, not b/c the tire was wearing and I've had about every make and model of tire on my trucks. I keep them until they fall apart. We have a Ford f100 with the 4.9 that has plywood in the floors b/c of rust holes.

I got Uniroyal hd highway load E on my 3/4 ton pickup and am happy with them. I have 61k on them. They are good until it snows, but they are good.

i just got a set of 235-75r15 6ply Hankook's on my isuzu rodeo. Good tread pattern and look to be quality.

My Continentals have 73K on them and still look good. Goodyears are cheap but I can't get any mileage out of them.

I am partial to Cooper tires. Bought a new Pathfinder in 1993. It had Goodyears on it. They lasted 23,000 miles. Put a set of Coopers on it. They were still going strong when i traded it in 1998 with 100,000 miles on it. I just bought Coopers for the car i am driving now. I expect the same results with them.

Here in Alaska we have a lot of highways that are still not paved. Also I live on a gravel road, and have to drive several miles a day on gravel just to get to the highway.

Every Ford Truck and Van I have bought since 1991 has come with Goodyears. Usually Wrangler all season tires. I will have two to three flats a month, Always on the passenger side. After the fourth or fifth flat they will tell me the tire is beyond repairing. I take the vehicle to Sam't Club and buy a set of 4 BF Goodrich tires for less than the two replacement Goodyears would be, and they last for several years, with no flats. When I finally have to replace them it's because the tread is gone, but in most cases they are still on the vehicle when I get rid of it.

I switched from the stock Firestones on my 05 Suburban to Michelin LTX M/S tires. They work great on ice/snow for lite duty stuff. I think one of the reasons that Michelin last a long time and wear well is that they are HEAVIER than a lot of other tires. If I remember right, when I did the research the Michelin's were heavier and had a greater tread depth than other equivalent tires. More rubber means they last longer.

I've always heard that Michelins were the best... I finally was able to afford a set. Nothing wrong with Goodyear/Goodrich but I'll try to keep buying Michelins. My Firestones lasted for a good 45k, traded out at 50k, should probably have done it earlier but...

I plan to order some Firestone Destination A/T's today for my Tacoma, from tirerack.com. I only need 2 since I use 'Winter Duellers' on the rear in the Winter. Tirerack is also a good place to do tire research on everything from load ratings to user reviews. It's like brakes though, one driver may get 35k between brake jobs & another 60k, salt required when reviewing.

Update; I ordered my tires Monday morning & they came Tuesday, IN to WI. They look very good, these Dest A/T's. I went to a small shop & they mounted both on the rims I had off the truck for $20. I'm just going to wait a while to put them on. I think I will do tire rack again next time.
