strange serial # on SB2 frame
« on: October 30, 2009, 04:31:50 PM »
I bought a frame from CRO after his deal with another person fell through. (LUCKY ME)!
It has a very strange serial #.
I have never seen or heard of one like it.
If anyone could give me any info on it I would be greatful.
The serial starts with JKS 020XXX
Below is a link to CRO's ad with pics.

It is a NEF frame, the one that has the gold photo etched deer scene on it.
Could this have been a special edition or maybe a special run like the guns that DAVISONS has done for them?
Just to the right of the turkey is the word JAKES.
I guess the JKS may have came from JAKES?

Below is a link to CRO's ad with pics.

Don't know about that number, but I believe any specials from Davidson's usually has a D in the serial number. At least that's the way my Marlin 1895SDT is. Serial number 95SDT0**
That receiver you have is beautiful!

Thanks Don.
I am sure it didn't come from them, like you said they always have a D in their serial #s.
At least my two Ruger Blackhawks that were built for them does along with my new Winchester Highwall.
I was just useing them as an example.

Is there or was there a organization or company called JAKES?
If so then maybe they had it done.

Doesn't the NWTF have a program called JAKES.
Maybe they had it done as a raffle or auction gun.

Jakes is the NWTF's youth program, H&R has made Jakes special edition firearms many times over the years.

CRO just sent me this PM.

The serial # is unusual and that's why I also wasn't able to determine the year of production.

Gun was originally a .243 (ejector barrel) with camo laminated stock and as far as I know it was all factory.  Must have been some sort of special edition.

I don't know.
All I bought was the frame, no wood or barrel.

If the frame has the view port plug, it's 2006 or later.

It's in the FAQs, the port on the right side of the frame that H&R uses to check latch engagement when they fit barrels.

Sorry Tim.
I went blank with that one.
Had to think about it a while and go look at one of my newer ones.
No it doesn't have the plug.
So it's older than 2006.

Thanks Don, but 8mm is a huge stone, it's not likely to pass, I have an appointment with my urologist Monday.

Tim,

Take heart. The modern technique of lithotripsy (sp?) and ultra-sound (which you may already know about) is pretty fast and painless. I was in and out of the hospital same day with a 7x20mm stone. The only discomfort is from the dang stent that you wear (guess where :D) for a few days afterwards to help evacuate any debris.

The stent itself doesn't hurt, but making water with that thing in creates back pressure that is a real eye opener! :o

No choice for it though, and you wil feel WAY better when the stone is gone.

I'm not new to this, had my first stone in 1984, I've already been thru lithotripsy, I was one of the first victu...er patients that Kaiser treated with their new maching, this one is left over after that treatment, my stones are "harder than concrete" according to Doc Skinner!  :-\

Sorry to hear about your trouble Tim.
Hope all goes well for you!

Took the smoke poles for a good walk this morning.
Temps were in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Saw 4 deer run accross the crest of the hill on the way to the stand, a good sign.
3 does and a med buck.
To dark to tell how many points.
Don't matter as I am a meat hunter anyway, unless he is really a large one.
A little cloudy off & on.
Just a beautiful morning to be out.
Hunted until about 10:30.
All total I saw 35 deer with 3 bucks, all small.
It was starting to warm up so I let them all walk.
Plenty of time.
Season doesn't go out until the first week in Jan here in VA.
To me there is nothing as relaxing as sitting on stand watching mother nature and all that GOD has provided for us to enjoy.
Have been hunting deer for over 40 years with several nice bucks on the wall so now I really don't get excited anymore.
Don't get me wrong, I still love to see a nice 8 or 10 point come by but he has nothing to worry about from me.
I get more satisfaction out of just watching them and learning their ways.
Anymore I am really starting to beleave that it's not about the kill.
I sit back there where it's nice and quit and think to myself just how lucky I am to have a wonderful family, a nice home and a farm where I can just go out and be in harmony with nature.
To me this is just as good as a vacation, maybe even better.
Man, what a blessing it is just to be alive!
