Python farming?
« on: October 26, 2009, 05:17:02 AM »
I just saw an ad for an electric guitar that is covered with farm raised python skin. I didn't know there was such a thing as a python farm.

I was also wondering whether they just farm them for the skin. I haven't seen any ads for python burgers yet.

We call it the Florida Everglades. They are over running the place.  >:(
They are worse than hogs.

i have seen a animal planet show , i think it was, about exotics raised on farms for skins. i believe they should all be banned in the US. the problem going on in the everglades with these non native snakes as well as the non native plants in all the southern waters  shows that not only danger to the people but a slow death of some of the best fishing in the US.

The water lily and the nutria are good examples of what happens with some of the ideas people have had about bringing non native species into the US.

Southern Florida is over ran with non native species,  The Africian Toad is just one.  They are everywhere, and get into everything.  Snakes, of all types,  are taking over the Everglades.  Plants like the Water Hyacinthie has taken over the water ways.  Southern Florida has been ruined in my openion.

But one thing I hate more than anything is the Ferel Cats.  Cats are everywhere.  I go canoeing down the canals and see cats under all the bridges.  I see cats in all the parking lots.  I see cats along all the roadways.  I see cats along the railroad tracks when taking the train from Miami to Orlando.  I see cats running around the woods near Disney World.

I hate cats.   Excuse my rant.

As for Python farming, I understand there is farms in Florida, Georgia, and in Louisiana, that do raise Pythons for the skin.  Doubt there would be much market for their meat.  Yes, some people would eat it, but not enough to make it profitable.

Seems like a shame to waste the meat. Snake meat can be pretty good. I don't know about pythons, but they are pretty meaty. Maybe they're better when they're small, like crocodile, for example.

i kinda miss the feral cats around here. once i wiped out the skunks, possums, armos, groundhogs, they were bout the only thing left to hunt in the off season.im thinking of ways to implement a restocking program.i do kinda balk at getting free kittens in wal mart parking lot but im at the end of my rope.
