leverevolution ammo in a contender
« on: October 27, 2009, 10:26:54 AM »
I know this question has probably been asked a million times, but I bought some Leverevolution ammo for my T/C contender which has a 45/70 23" barrel. I was just wondering if it safe to use? i usually use Federal factory ammo with the 300gr bullet, but I thought I would try something different?

Thanks for your help!

Jeff

I shoot them in my 45/70 Katahdin barrel and have had no issues. 8) Shoot great and really extends your range.

I think your trying to ask if the pressure of this ammo is safe in the contender. I don't know myself but I am sure someone will answer your question.

The reason I am asking is because the cases are a little bit shorter than the cases on the Federal ammo and the bullet appears to be a little bit bigger? I took each brand of ammo bullet first and attempted to put them into the end of the barrel, the Fed. looks like it is just gonna fall down the barrel, and the Leverevolution is a little bit bigger than the barrel? I was probably just trying to be too safe?

Thanks everybody!

I have used both the 45/70 and 35 Remington leverevolution ammo in my contender with no problems.  I have probally shot 60+ round of each and notice nothing of concern.

All I can add is this...
I fired two of the 45/70 Leverevolution rounds through my 14" Contender. There was SIGNIFICANTLY more recoil than that of the 300 or 405 grain Remington loads. As far as I'm concerned, it wasn't worth risking damaging my early Contender frame. I'll save the Leverevolutions for my Guide Gun. YMMV.
