There are some fine specimens there!
Boy, talking about a culture shock, I was born, raised and lived my entire life in the “Sunny South,” Even my tour in the Army was spent south of the Mason-Dixon line, but in 1957 when I enlisted in the Air Force my first assignment was to Manhattan Beach AF Station, that’s was about as city as you can get, this ole country boy had never seen so much concrete. We were lost in the city, venture two blocks away from the base and no one had ever heard of the place. Yes, for a flag waving Robert E. Lee orientated Son of the South it was an awaking experience.
After five months there I volunteered for an assignment to Sondrestrom AB, Greenland with the assurance, that upon return, I would be returned to the sunny south.
I must admit, there were some beautifu people and country out of the city, for the most part they seened to be just "good ole country folks."
