Canadian Cannon Company

Does anyone know anything about these guys?

Any feedback, positive or negative, will be appreciated! Thanks.

P.S. I'm interested in the "1/5 Scale 24PDR Garrison Tube, Brass": www.brasswithclass.com/tube_brass_24_4.php. Dunno that I am too crazy about the "threaded trunions (that) fit into the sides of the tube and can be removed", though.

I'm not sure how they manage to make a brass barrel out of solid steel stock.  I guess they're alchemists?

I would prefer to have the trunnions fixed to the barrel, which you could do, or possibly request they do it for you.  I also don't see any indication of them using steel sleeves.  Not everyone chooses to sleeve their brass tubes, but I'm just pointing that out.  To my eye, they seem to machine a decent looking barrel, and there are some aspects of their carriage design that I like, but I have no direct experience with any of their products.

Several of the folks here have bought canons from them and there has been no complaint. If the trunnions are screwed into a socket and welded, soldered or braised they should be just fine. Ask about that.

Have you considered contacting our sponsor DUCK ISLAND CANNON WORKS LLC & RBG CANNONS.  The makes a similar class of cannons for around the same prices, except the cannons are made of bronze, amuch more suitable and correct cannon material.

Thank you very much, gentlemen!

If the prices are the same and materials are better, I would be happy to order from RBG. I had the impression that the muzzle-loading cannon they sell are made by third parties (South Bend Replicas); guess I am wrong?

My biggest concern about Canadian Cannon is that they seem to have difficulties keeping everything proportioned. E.g., the diameters of their 1/4 scale and 1/5 scale 24-pounders are identical (4" breech, 3" muzzle), although the lengths are - of course - different (32" vs. 24"). The trunion dimensions also seem on the small size, and the quoin furnished with their naval carriages is too big [see http://www.brasswithclass.com/images/specialcannons/specialcannons-011.jpg].

My preference would be Cannon Ltd.'s "1800" English Naval Gun, but of course that is no longer an option. Should have ordered one when I had the chance!  :'(
