Holster Help Please!
« on: December 09, 2008, 08:53:07 AM »
I am looking for a holster for a S&W Model 629 3". Anyone had any luck with a holster for a 3" N frame S&W?  I have found them for 4" but no luck with a 3".

Thanks!

A lot of makers will built to suit.  Try El Paso Saddlery.  I particularly like the Threepersons and the Street Combat holsters.  Which one depends on what you plan to use it for.

I used a pancake style for my M29 with 3" barrel.

Because of the short barrel, I tended to have the holster between my trousers and belt rather than outside my belt.  It provided a bit more cencealment and a lot more security.

I agree with Don 100%, I thought I'd toss in another or two: http://www.enter.net/kart/kart.pl?action=moreinfo&sku=ch-2&cart=yodercustomlea
My mostest favorite is Galco but I've never looked for a 3" before.  Most of the quality holster makers will take your special order at very little price difference.

Thanks for all the replies. I have found a few sources that I am checking into. Saguaro Gun Leather, David Bullard Leather, Simply Rugged, Rays holsters & EZ Moon clips.

If it were me with a 3" 629 I would choose a good cross draw holster from http://www.mernickleholsters.com/bm_field.html #FC13 REF2 comes to mind as I was going to have them make me this very one for a 3" .44 Magnum.

Hope this helps

What is the purpose of the holster? Concealed carry, field, range ?

Its for carrying while I am trout fishing back in mountains. Mainly in case a big critter comes down the same trail I am on. I am finding most people are telling me that unless I want to pay for a custom holster I am going to have to go with a 4" holster as noone produces a 3" hoster in quantities. I will keep looking I guess.

try GBO Sponsor onesonek.  He makes custom holsters for outdoor use.  While he makes them for long pistols like Contenders, he knows how to make hunting/outdoors type rigs and may be able to make you just what you want.

For trout fishing look at the "Chesty Puller" from Simply Rugged. The owner, Rob Leahy can also make that holster to fit your 3" gun.

+1 Simplyrugged.com holsters by Leahy. Just bought the chesty puller harness and the sourdough holder for my 6" S&W for hunting. Fits the gun perfectly. Good person to do business with too. ;)

I got to test out the SimplyRugged pancake holster with the chesty puller harness today hunting.  It fits the gun like a glove and the harness system can be easily adjusted in several different aspects-length and position on your chest, cross draw style, flush to the chest or looser, etc.  I really like it! I could wear this one all day while hunting without getting tired.
