.45-90
« on: October 07, 2006, 11:31:19 AM »
Does anyone know of a source for TrailBoss powder data in the .45-90? IMR has none and isn't responsive by e-mail.

Thanks

Try calling the powder co. tech. support number.  I used the 45-70 load data in my 45-120  and it shot so light I looked down the bore to make sure the bullet left the barrel.  I called about a year ago and they said they might work up load info. for more cartridge.  Got tired of waiting and will stay with Acc.5744.

I called Hodgdon Powder Co. today spoke with tech reference using Trail Boss in my Uberti 1885 45-90. His advice was lay the bullet next to the case, mark it with a pencil fill it with Trail Boss and that is a Maximum load. Multiply it by .7 to get 30% for a starting load. He also stated you could fill the case up with Trailboss and light it up and not cause any damage........

I read this before and didn't believe it until I called them myself.
If I agreed with you then we would both be wrong.

Trailboss is pretty hard to over charge.....but that doesn't mean it will be an accurate load.
If he's carrying a singleshot, don't expect a warning shot!

You should have ask what kind of velocities and pressures you would get with that load...published  pressures seem high for the velocities produced.
