What are people thoughts on 2 or 3 grains of regular powder in a pietta NA 44?   I know it's frowned upon....has anybody tried it?  I'm currently running 40 gr of American in it.

The reproduction revolvers are made of mild steel, not good ordinance steel.

To maintain good eye sight and a hand with an opposing thumb, it would be prudent to follow the instuctions stamped on the barrel.

Years ago I knew a fellow that would put about 5 gr. of unique in his stainless Old Army. It would usually cock itself. I never knew it to fail but it was still scarey. I have a pietta 1860 snub I have a conversion cylinder for. Shoots OK with hollow base 148s [3.3 titegroup]. I think shooting it much would quickly loosen it up. My Uberti '58 Remington, [converted] shoots 45colt all day long with no problems yet. A BP cylinder loaded with smokeless is a small bomb.

I tried firing my Ruger Old Army with Trailboss. Every shot was a hangfire, velocity was very low, accuracy poor, and I decided that was pretty dumb. But it didn't blow up, and now I can tell you not to do that and you don't have to find out for yourself. Real black powder is all I will use in percussion revolvers now, it works properly and is way more fun to shoot. Do yourself a favor and stick to the real stuff.

I agree, real black powder is the best. It performs better and it is even cleaner than most. 777 is good too, a little pricey tho. Pyrodex is crap unless they have changed it recently.
