Squirrel Guns !!
« on: October 14, 2003, 02:49:41 AM »
Hello fellow air gun fans:

Since you guys have got me addicted to these wonderful guns, I am just like a kid, now. As of today, I have killed 2 big fox squirrels with my M-34 RWS air rifle, and also 2 big fox squirrels with head shots  with my EB-17
CO2 pistol. I have done lots of practicing with both guns, and I am extremley pleased with both of them. I would never have dreamed they  would have the power and accuracy to "hunt" with.

I am more or less "run over" with these big red fox squirrels, and also have lots of black fox squirrels here. We have pecan trees, and between the crows and squirrels, won't get any pecans this year. Needless to say, they had already wiped out my fruit trees. The crows are so wily I am using my 22-250 and 222 and 223 Thompson-Centers on them with super 14" barrels. The crows "post" so many lookouts, or "guards", it's like fighting the Taliban here. The only weakness the wily ole crow has, is, he can't keep his big mouth shut. He has to advertise to the whole world his whereabouts. So, that does work to my advantage. Outside, I now keep my guns handy while working in the yard, and I can pretty well keep up with their movements.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you guys, I love this forum, can't wait to read new material on here from you all. Shooting the CO2 pistol on the front porch, I have the pellet bullet trap. This has really helped my  overall shooting, because the trigger on the  pistol, while not bad, really helps me concentrate, and then, when I go to the T/C's for the long range crows, it is really paying off.

Hope I am not boring you all with this. I'd love it when you all share your excitement and hunts and pest controls on here. I have a Sampler pack coming and will try to find out what ammo my guns prefer. Right now, I'm doing lots of shooting, because even with what ammo I have now, there is nothing that can take the place of practice, practice, practice. I'm even getting to the point I can reload pretty fast.

I am thinking about putting a sling on my RWS-34. It is a heavy gun. Let me hear from you on slinging your air  rifle.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings, and see you all later.

casper_zip,

Not getting the nuts is bad but nut flavored squirrel is almost as good.  My problem isn't squirrels getting pecans but my almonds and cashews.  I got a fondness for both types of those nuts.  I went to a lot of trouble learning how to dry those nuts and roast them the way I like them.  I built a couple of blinds near my fruit and nut trees so I can ambush those crows.  Made from sticks and such they are woven into a hut type affair that when wearing camo inside the crows don't seem to be able to see you.  Lets you keep shooting if you work from the bottom up when shooting crows.  As far as a sling on my break action air rifles I use a QD barrel band stud on the front and a standard QD stock stud on the rear.  Hope this helps and keep us posted on your success with your M34 and your EB-17.  Lawdog
