Bitzenburger jig ? straight clamp cam set-up
« on: October 27, 2009, 10:30:05 AM »
I like to ask with the above jig can you set it up with a 2 degree off-set?
I don't have the instruction with the jig.
I did some 2" blazer vanes the other day and have to say what a difference in flight with broadheads when you get out to 30 yards.
I did screw up 1 shaft seem the top vane REAR was leaning to the left a little (off-center) the shaft did have a little twist to the arrow flight.
I see there is 2 marks on the jig;I would think it is set for a straight fletch (no off-set)
I think the 2" blazers are outstanding will the above jig work on blaszer vanes or would I need to purchase one that is made for blaszer vanes only.
I read a 2 degree off set is all that is needed ,I also hear some guys use a helical on blazers vanes?
any one use the above jig/ and if so what or how are the cams set-up top and bottom as far as 1/16 or 1/8" setting top and bottom
I called customer service at bitzenburger the old timer said 1/8 at the top and 1/16 at the bottom to the right (no way) the set up is wrong I thought I ask any one who uses the jig were are his cams marks top and bottom????

I would be very cautious about setting up a hunting arrow with 3 straight layed 2" Blaser vanes even if they are offset , you need the helical to impart enough spin to stabilize your broadhead equipped arrows when using 3 fletches . You could 4 fletch your arrows with the Blasers and get good stabilization with the straight clamp setup if you absolutely had too but I guess you could run into clearance problems depending on the rest you use .

I have a Bitzenburger jig and use straight and Helical clamps with it , they are a fine jig best I've ever owned . I am aware of Blazer vanes as several mates use them . They are fletched helicaly and am sure any jig could be used . They get great arrow flight . I would be very distressed if the marketing guru's are expanding their waistlines now by selling us fletches that require specialist jigs . I do understand those curly spin vanes require a specialist jig but they are a specialist target vane .

I think the short length of the vanes makes it look as though you have insufficent offset . I sometimes get funny angles on my fletches aswell - always due to me not paying enough attention .

I returned mine and gave up on fletching my own.
Now I use quick fletch, the shrink wrap style.  I consider it so easy it's like cheating.

To each his own, but in the moment of truth with a monster I don't want to look at my arrow and see the fetching aint wrapped too tight if you get my drift.Too many chances for a mistake a big mistake with shrink wrap. The two do not go hand in hand, it's like saying if you can't fix it with duct tape screw it it's broken. Walking in the woods can play havoc on things if not careful and cutting a Fletch and wounding a giant, well I will say it is not worth it to me. But I did say to each his own, if it works for you then keep on keeping on.

I don't know what you are talking about.  I have had ZERO problems with the shrink fletching.  It's idiot proof, if you know how to boil water...... ::)
The glue on method however is full of problems.  Never know when one of the vanes are going to fall off.

It worked for me this year!

Can you imagine if everyone in this world was the same, pretty boring huh. If it works for you great and I'm happy for you. Maybe the shrink wrap is a great way to go, but for me well I'm just not sure maybe someone can make me a believer. One question, have you had any pass through shots and did it stay together.

I have had pass thrus on other deer with no problems. These quick fletch are idiot proof and that's why I like them. ;)  I have not had reliable luck with the glue method.  When you shrink these in the hot water it also activates a glue, if I'm not mistaken.  The only damaged ones I've had is from cutting the fletching with another arrow in the target.  I know they are very durable....NO replacements in 2 years of using them.  Have you tried them yet?  It's not some chinsy friction fit like you might think.

This deer I shot behind the front shoulder, thru the heart and hit the offside elbow, otherwise the arrow would have passed thru.

Glad your happy with your equipment.  I like my setup and "there's more than one way to skin a cat."   I wouldn't suggest switching either if you're confident in it. But for fool proof and relieable, I would consider the quick fletch stuff!
