nope I didnt conterdict my self.
not all gun cleaners can or will remove the salts that are formed when you fire black powder. to clean a black powder correctuly and to prevent ursting you must use some to get rid of the salts the hot water and soap is the best and cheapest thaing to use then if you think you may still need to use the hoppies and then a light coat of oil.
The way I clean my barrels is. first I take them apart as much as i can
put all the small parts in an old plastic pill bottle filled with bearch wood casey's no 77 Black powder solvent and let them soak. then use a wet patch and run it trough the bore a few times then a dry one and another wet one, I then use a bronze brush and scrub the bore several times , then I run a nother wet patch and a few dry ones and make sure the bore is nice and dry then I use a light coat of rem oil or eezox when i have it.
then I scrub all the small parts with and old tooth brush dry and oil them and put it all back together.
The birchwood casey No 77 is nothing but water with pink soap in it. the only reason I am using it ,is because I was given a few 32 oz bottles.
I have never used the jb past,
