The Ranch Rifle's receiver is made to accept the Ruger factory scope rings...the standard Mini 14 is not, but scopes can be mounted with an adapter that attaches to the left side. All the new Mini 14s are called Ranch Rifles now, but previously there were the two different models.

gunblade gave good advice, if yu want to scope it EASILY, get a ranch rifle. if yu like the peeps get a regular mini.the side mount scopes on the regular mini 14 kinda limits yu on eye relief and type of mounts.if yu want to scope it get a ranch, if you dont get a regular mini.either one seems to appreciate fairly well over the years.id say the ranch would have a better overall value.

I have a 70's model mini and it does not have the scope mounts I did at one time put a side mount 2 power scope on it and it performed well enough but I did not like the look and removed it. The peep works well and I dont shoot it at anything over two hundred yards anyway !
