20 gauge BuckHammer ballistics?
« on: November 19, 2009, 02:17:56 PM »
I went to the Remington web site expecting to find this information but it's not there. I know they push a 1 ounce bullet  but how fast from the 2 3/4 and 3 inch versions?

In 2 3/4, it's 1500 fps @ the muzzle and 995 fps @ 100 yards.  Energy @ the muzzle is 2236 ft lbs and 1074 ft lbs @ 100 yards.

In 3", it's 1550 fps @ the muzzle and 1051 @ 100 yards.  Energy @ the muzzle is 2470 ft lbs of and 1135 @ 100 yards.

With a 50 yard zero, drop for the 2 3/4" is -4.6" @ 100.  With a 50 yard zero, drop for the 3" is -4.1".

It's in their catalog, I don't know why they won't put it on the website.  BTW, the velocity numbers are factory numbers and "real world" numbers are usually lower.  Not that I think it'll matter @ the ranges mentioned, but it is food for thought.

Thanks.  I am surprised to see so little difference in the 3 inch shell versus the 2 3/4.  Maybe the longer shell is a bit more accurate. I ordered some of each from Cabela's as they have a sale on but if I'd known exactly what the ballistics were I would have only ordered the 2 3/4 inch shells. They seem pretty potent though at least up to a bit past 100 yards.

I'd say you'll be good to go as long as they group well from your particular gun @ the ranges we're discussing.

Best of luck to you!
