NON-Standard Cartridges…

NON-Standard Cartridges…

Who has a non-standard cartridge (no longer being made by H&R/NEF), and what is it?  Also, any trouble with developing a good load for it?  Did you do it yourself or did you have it done?  Do you recommend someone for this work?

Ya mean like my Wayne York .25-20?

I've not shot it yet but do have some ammo loaded up to do so next time I have a decent day for shooting. That assumes we ever have another non rainy day when the wind isn't blowing and it isn't too cold for an old fart to go out and shoot. Maybe by next June or July.

7x57, 7x64, RMEF 35 Whelen and 17M2 are the only factory chamberings I have that were once offered, but are not longer offered. If you mean non-standard that H&R has never offered, 45-120, 35 Remington, 338-06 A-Square, 405 Win, 30-30 Impr, 280 Imp, 6.5x55 and 6mm Rem Imp.

Tim, ya got to many, I'd be right happy to give the 7X57, 7X64, 35 Rem., 338-06 and the 280 Imp a real good home. ;) ;D  That would get me a little closer to your count. :D ::) ;D  They could join my 7-30 Waters, 30-30 AI done on a 223 and my son's 22 smoothbore.  I guess I should add the 3- 357 Max's in there as well.  Tim what about your 460?  DP

Like the others-7x57, 7x64, RMEF 35W, RMEF 280, 357 max.
Don't forget the 445 super mag, 454 casull.
Soon to be 221 fireball, 307 win, 45-120.

The first 5 all shoot factory ammo.
Haven't loaded for them yet.

The next two are just starting to work with.

The last three have not had the chambers cut yet, but soon.

Almost forgot one, my 225 Win useing both factory and hand loads.

I did forget this one, 22 jet with reloads but don't shoot it anymore.

I have a 22 jet, 7.62x39 and a 357 max in factory barrels and 357 Herrett(rechamber), 375 Winchester(Wayne York rebore), and a 32-20(stub) in custom barrels.I also have a Shikari 45-70 and two not made anymore Target Classics in 38-55.  I would like to have a 405 Winchester Target Classic but will probably end up with an encore barrel in that one to go with my 9.3x74R encore.

17HMR Versa Pack,17MII,.32H&R Magnum,7.62x39,30-40Krag. The Versa Pack escaped from the factory some how only one we have heard about so far but at one time I think they were slated for a 3 bbl set that never went to production. The H&R mag is a stub that Larry did and the 30-40Krag was a 30-30 that about any gunsmith should be able to do all shoot very well I sold the 1-9 .225 Winchester. Kurt

Not cartridges but forgot the .45, two .58's and two 12ga Huntsman Muzzleloaders.

I guess you could throw in the .38-55 as a no longer cataloged barrel, I have one I got off Eskimo cut down to 18 inches which leads to another bunch of handies, Ones that have been modified to no longer look like standard Rifles.   The fun never ends. ;D

Lots of real neat things to do with the handi's, why don't we see relined barrels in the handi? rather than stubbing would it not be easier to reline?

257 Roberts rebored from 223. 6x47 rebored from 223. Neither of  the two 223 were accurate. Both of the two Handi Ultra rifles with a 24" heavey barrels were milled octagon.

They both shoot well but the 257 keeps setting the under lug back, and when it develops a gap it quits shooting accurately. At present it is relegated to the Vault. It needs a permanent fix, but I just don't have any time to do it.

Besides I get very tired when I think of working on that Handi.

Here are 5 ,  Mildcats... my name for them that I have built on handis.
From left to right, all of these are formed on rimmed cases.
#1   A shortened 270 Winchester formed on a 7 X 57 R case.
#2   A shortened 7 x 64  formed on 30-40 Krag brass
#3   A shortened 303 British formed on 30-30 brass
#4   A shortened 340 Weatherby formed on 45-70 brass
#5   Not a mildcat but just a standard 44 Special, I have made 3 of theese , gave 2 away to friends.

I handload all of these to just moderate pressure levels and they are all very accurate and useful for hunting.      Jed

I have a 218 BEE, started out as a 22 hornet with a 1:12 twist.  Also have a 450 Marlin which I think is no longer made.

I am considering having another one made on a 22 magnum bull barrel.  Also when I get the parts around I am going build/have built a 25 ACP rifle.

Yes, hand reamed it myself, just like reaming a 357Mag to Max. It should shoot Casull and Colt from what others have said, but I haven't done it yet.
