Black powder handguns or barrels!
« on: October 17, 2003, 04:49:01 AM »
anyone out there using a black powder handgun or TC handgun barrel :?:

i'd like to get one or the other. the traditions buckhunter pistol looks pretty good, and about as cheap as a barrel only for the tc's.

if you have one, what kinnda performance are you getting? :D

A friend has an encore w/15'' 50 cal. bbl. He is shooting 1'' groups off bags at 100 yds. I have seen this or wouldn't believe it. Recoil is stiff but not unmanageable. Hope this helps.

Kyode,

I own a 44 in a lyman BP pistol.. Shoots almost better then my ruger superblack hawk in 44mag.. I have a steel chicken about 1" 1/4  thick setup about 80yds away that will swing if it hard enough and when that lyman smacks it you deffinatly no it.. Been dyin to see what it would do on deer but to bad its not legal here in pa for deer... They "claim"  BP pistols dont have enough stuff behind them to take a deer.. But I wouldnt want to be on the reciveing end of it to about 100yds thats for sure..

I have a 14 inch S.S. 209x50 made by bullberry.
I use 95 grs of pyrodex p and hornady 240 xtp mag  45 cal bullets. and some bulk sabots (bright orange).
Last year I took a 6 pt buck at about 10 yards one shot kill
today I shot a doe at about 80 yards she drooped in her tracks while she was trashing around a norther doe came in to see what was going on I quickly reloaded and took a second shot. I was in a hurry and shaking from the first doe. I missed her bad.

I also had a ruger old army. I scoped it with a  no name 2x scope. I took a nice doe on the run at 30 yards with it drooped her in her tracks. Latter the same season I tried to take a little buck at 40 yards. I know I hit it. but the deer walked off with no blood or any other signs I ended up shooting at it 5 times and never did find any good signs of a fatal hit.

I sold off the ruger package and a contender barrel and bought the 209x50 and never looked back.

If you have the money and can stand the very long wait I would go with a bullberry or a VVGW 209x50.

I guess I can say "Been there , done that, and got the deer to show for it :-D

Kyode:

If you can find one on an auction, buy yourself a TC Scout pistol.  It is far and away a better gun the the Tradition Buckhunter.  I bought a TBH, from Bass Pro, and I returned it the very next day...and I was happy to pay the postage.  It's REALLY CRUDE.  I'm sure the TBH will gt the job done, but the TC is much better gun for the money...well built and as accurate as you need for punching paper or fur.  I'm very pleased with my Scout.

I have a 205x50 encore 15" barrel that I really like, have been shooting 295 powerbelt and 70 grains of t7 ff powder. chrono says 1345 fps velocitiy. It is a lot of fun to shoot and will shoot cloverleafs at 50 yards with open sights. drichi
