does anyone have an encore handgun in Maryland.
I will be looking to buy or trade for one soon, but I can no longer buy a new one in the not so great state of Maryland.

I've got 3 but I bought mine before the ballistic fingerprint requirement of 2002. Call Atlantic Guns in Silver Spring (301-585-4448) or in Rockville (301-279-7983). They are a good bunch and have an unbelievable amount of new handguns that are still legal for sale. I guess they stocked up from their distributors before the manufacture cutoff dates of 2002 & 2003 or something. Atlantic has an add on page 63 in the 2003-2004 Maryland Annual Deer Hunting Guide.

What happened in Maryland that you can't buy a new Encore? I used to live in Germantown and was just curious.

The ex gov of md !@#&#$ us all the new guns must have a fires cast to be put on file, we now have to go trough a " handgun safety" class, and the new guns must have an intergrated locking system.

Whew, I grew up in Baltimore and know exactly what you're going through. I always wanted to hunt with a handgun when living down there but I felt the odds were against me. The pointless laws have made MD. no safer than any other state. Maybe MD. should have a registration for smokers, tobacco can be as deadly as handguns. Where do you live Rickyp? If you're near the Mason Dixon line, buy a used one in Pa. and have the dealer ship it to a FFL holder in MD. I believe the requirements that you speak of are only for NEW handgun purchases, aren't they? A dealer that I will recomend is at www.taylorstradingpost.com and he probably has several of each firearm he sells. Check out his web site. His shop looks like one of the old time dealers from back in the 50's with guns from wall to wall. His prices can be on the upper end but if you want to place your hands on something before you purchase it, his is the place to go.

I live in charles county.

I have talked to several gun shopes around me. they all told me the same thang they can not import any into MD. If they could i would just go on gun broker or buy one from the classified ads on gbo. or even from ed. but no one will bring a handgun in. I could buy a rifle all day long but the is not a good way to go.

Have you contacted the State Police to see exactly what the requirements are for a used handgun? I have heard rumors of shops going out of business due to these weird law not allowing new guns in the state but used??. I would contact the closest state police barracks and ask them. You may try emailing the address in the website to see what he says.

Just a thought but think it may not be legal.. Why not purchase it as a rifle? Then stick pistol grips on it? If I rember correctly you can change a pistol to rifle but not rifle to pistol..

you can not make a rifle in to a handgun.
The reason I want this hand gun is so I can hunt with it, and if the game warden wants to harrass me he will check in to the gun and see it if was a handgu or rifle. I have already been harrassed by one for hunting deer with a ruger old army but he couldnt find anything because I was doing nothing wrong and he was P!@@#d that he could not give me a ticket or something. so if he found out that the gun was not in the correct form he would of arrested me on the spot. It is not worth a chance.
