md77 mrkII stainless

Hey I have a model 77 in stainless with the indented stock and the stock has a few places that seems to be discolored due to age i guess. What can I use to restore the stock? I was told by a friend to use wd40 on it and it would help it bring it back to life. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Yea.  Any spray oil or wax will work.
I spray on a clean rag and wipe the gun rather than spray on the gun and wipe.
Personally I use T-9 Boeshield it is a high tech low drag spray wax you can get in a boating store.
it was made to keep the leading edge of a plane from icing.  Real tough stuff.
One day it was 100+ in Southern CA and we were shooting trap.  The SXS was hot.  A small rain storm hit and the rain still bead up on my and two friends guns that use it while others would run.

Do as you please, but I personally would NOT recommend that you put wax on the old Ruger "boat paddle" type synthetic stock.  The stock is much too porous to benefit from any type of wax, as it will probably add to the discoloration.  All of the old Ruger synthetics like these turned whitish over time.  Your friend is correct regarding WD-40, but any petroleum based oil will do the same.  The only difference is that these stocks tend to hold whatever you rub them down with, due to their porous nature, and what you end up with is a gun that smells like what you put on it........for a very long time.  If it were me, I would buy a can of silicone spray lube, and use that.  Then every so often wipe it down with a silicone gun cloth, after shooting/hunting with the rifle.  Bingo, problem resolved.

Or you can buy a used one in good shape on fleabay or many other places. I have 3 rugers with that same stock. I have never really noticed any discoloration they just look used. I prefer them to other stocks, you can abuse them for years and if you do finally break one just buy another used one for $ 25.00 and good to go again. To me most guns are a tool rather than a safe queen. To each his own...
