my USH best firearm I've ever owned!
« on: November 14, 2009, 11:13:13 AM »
This 20ga. slugger is the best firearm I've had the wonderful opportunity to acquire. I am no long range shooter, but from what I see so far this gun is very capable of some truly great accuracy out there some beyond 100yds. Right now I'm shooting the cost effective low recoil Remington Buck Hammers, as suggested by one of the very experienced members here. They shoot very good! And is what will be in the chamber come 1st day of our Pennsylvania buck season. Sure am lookin forward to it! Have a good evening! scout4<><

Are the Buckhammers a rifled slug?  And are you shooting them in a rifled barrel?

"Specifically designed for rifled barrels and rifled choke tubes, these high-performance slugs are capable of producing 3-inch or better groups at 100-yards with nearly 100% weight retention and controlled expansion to nearly one-inch in diameter.

Unlike traditional sabot slugs, the BuckHammer’s unique attached stabilizer allows for a full bore diameter lead slug that delivers devastating terminal performance with unsurpassed accuracy." The slug is not grooved like traditional rifled foster style slugs. I can attest to thier wieght retention. I have used the lowrecoil slugs with the best accuracy but could not find any locally this yr so I bought several boxes of the 1500fps was very disapointed out side of 50yrds. Luckly I have 2 boxes of the 1200fps one left and that should get me thru the season. I would classify them as more of a Hybred than a sabot but they do work well in the ULSH and the USH for a whole lot less than those high$$$$$
sabot's. Glad you are happy with yours.Kurt

the buck hammers I shot were HEAVY,  they shot about 5" lower than my sights @ 50yds, but they were consistent.  I think they would whallop a deer inside of 5 yards.
