I had a Marlin 50M .22 mag. It's a funny thing, but I just didn't like it. I couldn't complain about accuracy or anything else about it. It just felt crude. An interesting coincidence....I was with a neighbor farmer friend in his pickup on one of his fields one day. Jon said to me "There's something on that rock pile over there." He stopped the truck and I hopped out with the mag, rested on the truck hood, and sure enough there was a fat 'chuck on top of the rocks. Bang....end of chucky. Jon said it was at least 225 yards. That was the first kill for that rifle. Then, several years later, Jon, his brother Layton, and I were looking at my west hay field to see if we wanted to cut it again. A flock of geese were on the field and we spooked them and they took off....all but one. The bird appeared to have a broken leg and couldn't run to take off. I decided to put it down, got out the mag and dispatched it....another 225 yard shot with the same witness. Patty's new Sportster, with the little 20 inch barrel, and lam stock is just a much more appealing rifle. It's light, "Handi", and pretty. With the limited shooting we've done with it, we're finding it to be very accurate.
Just a side note, because we're in farm country and the shots are often long. I keep most of my rifles sighted in at 200 yards and I know their drop at 300.
