question about sling mounting on 760
« on: May 10, 2010, 11:42:55 AM »

  Hello,

I have a 1976 model 760 and I want to mount a sling.  My question is about the Uncle Mike's "760BB" barrel mounted stud/band.  Is it clamped with a screw, or is it epoxied to the barrel ?  Also, has anyone noticed a change in accuracy when the sling/mount is attached directly to the barrel ?

And a comment about this pump rifle:  For the man who has a pump shotgun and wants to hunt deer with a rifle, these Remingtons are freakin' GREAT !  But everyone here already knows that...
thanks

The barrel band has a screw that clamps the band together. It has a hollow center and the swivel goes through the mounting screw.  You need to remove the front sight to get the band on. I put some red Loctite thread locker between the band and the barrel on my 7600 but the 760 doesn't have it and has had no problems for over 20 years staying put.

Accuracy loss? I don't think so. This target is a 1976 760 30-06 with my son shooting it. It's his rifle now.

If you aren't applying sling pressure while shooting there shouldn't be a noticable difference.

Thanks Dave and Empty.

I wouldn't be putting any tension on the sling while shooting.
That group is amazing; way better than needed for woodland deer hunting.  My '06 might shoot that well, but I am still experimenting with different brands/loads to find the best.

Try 165gr bullets and 55gr-57gr of IMR or H4350.  Many 760s and 7600s seem to like less than max loads for accuracy.

i have the barrel mounted sling on my 760.  I shoot only Fusion 180 gr in 3006.   It routinely shoots MOA or less depending on me.    I have used this setup for 20 yrs and never have had a problem with accuracy or changing POI.

I also have a 1976 760 in 30-06 with the barrel band sling swivel.  No effect on accuracy at all. I've used it that way since 1976 and have shot well over 40 deer with it.

BRW, that's not the gun in my avatar.  That is a 1954 760 in 35 Remington.
