Contender and Barska Optics????
« on: November 01, 2009, 02:09:24 AM »
Usually I will not buy elcheapo optics, but the price was there for the taking. I,m putting together another Tender pistol (barrel on order from MGM, short, slim taper, more on that later). Recoil will be low enough I can get by with a 4" eye relief rifle scope. The lighted (Red or Green reticules) looked good to my failing eyes, especially the red. The scope being short will look good on the completed Tender. This setup will be for field and target.

Anyone here used the Barska's on their pistols? (Pros, Cons, Opinions)

Have not used them on a pistol but have a number of them on my rifles and have had no trouble with them at all. I picked mine up at an over run auction site and they were in a lot with Pentex, simmons, and Nstar and BSA mixed in with an average cost of 20.00 inc. shipping so figured could not go wrong for that price and they came with the rings. A number of venders are selling them at Gun shows in our area and they say they have had no complaints and a good scope for the price.

TC Dave 1,
You might consider a smaller dot, 1.5 moa vs. 4moa. Check out the ADCO A30. I'm considering replacing a 5 moa scope on my Buckmark Silhouete because those ground squirells get covered up with the dot. Just a thought.

My question is referring to a compact 3-9 rifle scope with a lighted reticule. With my eye sight I could never get by with a red dot scope.  8)

Might be a dumb question, but how are you holding the Tender so you can use the 4" eye relief scope? Just curious.

I use a set of shooting sticks or rest the left hand on the side of a tree with the pistol resting a cross the arm and just slide right up close and shoot the heck out of tree rats. Works well for me. Wouldnt want to try this with a recoiling pistol. :o  I have also used a rifle scope on an Encore 6.5X55 S.M. with a brake with no problem.

Here is a pic of my 17MACH2 with a Nikon 3x9 Rifle scope.

I knew you have been around the Contender a long time. Thought maybe you had a trick to shooting big calibers ;D. I guess it makes since to do it with only smaller rounds. I just never thought of using rifle scope on it.
Nice setup by the way.

Here's the hunter's pistol version on smaller calibers

Lonny If you have a brake that works very good bigger cals. can be shot with rifle  scopes. I use to shoot my Encore 15-1/2" 6.5X55S.M. with a rifle scope. With full power loads and 129gr. bullets it would barely kiss the fore head. Bad thing was that the muzzle blast from the brake would shake my cap.

While I use rifle scopes on some Contenders, my only Barska is a 6X24 50MM on a .204 Ruger rifle. It works fine for my purposes.
