New Buck Mark
« on: March 07, 2010, 06:11:24 PM »
After a fair amount of deliberation (and lurking around here), I bought a new Buck Mark Stainless Standard URX last week.  I appreciate all the good info many of you provided.  I had a ball shooting it this weekend and look forward to many years of fun to come!

Yesterday a couple of buddies came over for a target shooting spree at my makeshift range in the woods out back.  We shot most of our combined rimfire, centerfire, muzzleloader, and shotgun arsenal.  That included 50 rounds each of Remmington Thunderbolts, Remmington Golden Bullets, CCI minimags, and about 100 rounds of Federal bulk through the Buck Mark.  We had a blast - literally!

Today I went back out for some serious ammo comparison from the bench and sandbags at 20 yards.  I shot another 50 rounds each of the four mentioned above.  The two Remmingtons both gave 10-shot groups around 2.5 to 3 inches.  CCI and Federal did a little better with groups around 2 to 2.5 inch.  The best 10-shot group was 1.75 inch from the Federal.

Of all the 450 or so rounds combined, there were 3 duds - two Thunderbolts and one Golden Bullet.  There were zero problems feeding/ejecting.

I'm no crack shot, so human error doesn't really let me say all that much about which ammo is really best.  I did confirm what some of you said about keeping an eye on the sight-mount screws.  They'll come loose if you let em.  The one thing I know for sure is I love my new toy, and I'm pretty sure it likes me too!

You sound like a happy camper..I bought one about twelve years ago and it's been a really great little pistol. It's as accurate as my Colt Match Target, at least with me shooting them.

Got one, and it will never be sold....Great shooter.

I'm sure you will enjoy it, especially after 500 rounds or so..

Good Luck.

Nice to hear.  I'm thinking about one for my wife; Challenger or Micro.  Got to find one so she can see if it fits her itti bitti little arthritic hands...  :-\

My wife also has itty bitty arthritic hands, and with the Buck Mark she thoroughly enjoys shooting. The safety is in the right place JUST LIKE A 1911, and the bolt locks back on the last round. It is a match grade little pistol that is super reliable. The best part of the pistol besides the above, is that when you look at the stamping on the barrel it says Buck Mark and right under that it says MADE IN THE USA.

Sorry sphar,  :-[  Not trying to hijack your thread.  Just complimenting your choice of handgun!   ;D

Thanks Dan!  Your comments mean a lot!  The position of the safety is a major factor.  She needs to be able to just push it down with her thumb to be ready to fire.  Most safetys are pretty awkward to operate.   :-\

You've probably already shot the Buck Mark AtlLaw, but in case you haven't, the safety is right were it needs to be for small arthritic hands. My wife's arthritis is mostly in her thumb joints, and she cannot spread her hand out wide in a normal fashion. The thumb insists on staying close to the palm, and this little pistol just works for problems like that. She would carry it in her purse if I'd let her, and she argues with the guy (a life long friend of mine) about qualifying with it when her permit has to be renewed.

No problem, AtlLaw.  Take it where you will.  I just wanted to throw it out there and share my excitement.  If it leads to another useful discussion, so much the better!

Cool Welcome to the Buck Mark Club.
I have had one since they were first introduced in 85? and have added two more.
The top is the older model and All I did was change the rear sight.
I had to get a second one as all my friends want to shoot mine so I got one for them to shoot.
The third is a big target model that they don't make any more.  I will get a pic of it up some other time.

Thanks guys!  With recommendations from men like y'all all I have to do is find a Challange or Micro that's for sale!   ;D

make sure you tighten up the screws good on top of the slide when you've reassembled it, I had mine come loose today on me (ruined my range trip because I didn't have the proper allen wrench to fix it)

yes it is similiar in feel to a 1911 (sans grip safety issue if you're used to a gi spec), the thumb safety is a good lever, and if you don't hold it consistently you'll get your thumb bumped by the slides grasping grooves.  easier than handloading .45acp all the time, and the factory grips can be good too.

Love my Buckmark. It won't be for sale ever. Very accurate, nice looking, and reliable semi-auto pistol.
