I shoot em in a 44 mag with porting and use cast bullets. Just have to clean up the lead build up from time to time in the expansion chamber. No big deal.....it will put traces of lead on the sides of the front sight post also where the round holes are,,,just clean it off. BUT,,, I cast mine hard and use gas checks so your situation may be different.

That's mostly what I shot in both of mine RB454 and RB480. Sure any shooting with cast or jacketed creates some mess at the ports but it's no big deal to clean it off. Don't let internet rumors keep you from shooting cast bullets in them. They work just fine with cast.

The only cast bullets I've shot out of my Raging Bull .454 Casull are .45 Colt 255 grainers. I don't shoot cast Casull loads, I'm not even sure there is such a thing.

Of course there is such a thing both in factory and hand loads. In fact it's likely what most of us use in them.

I load a 250 gr gc for 44 mag, my S-I-L shoots a raging bull in 44 mag. He has put several thousand rounds of cast thru it. (sure he can shoot it I load for it  ::) ) I did find leading near the sight, but read ifin you put a little Break Free on both sides of the sight its a lot easyer to get the lead off.

Define "most of us". Not being a smarta$$, but NOBODY I know who shoots .454 Casull uses cast bullets.

But on the other hand, I don't know a lot of other people shooting .454.

I shoot a RB chambered in 45colt, not 45/454. The only thing I shoot in it is a 310gn keith style hardcast. There is a little residue at the porting. It is easier to clean off if you let it build up just a little. And other than members of these forums, everybody I know shoots cast.

I didn't know that many kalifornians had .454's  ;D

I don't know anybody who owns a revolver and shoots only jackets out of it.  I've never met anybody who shoots only jackets out of one. - Well, except maybe you.

With lead, you are going to get leading out of any revolver, especially a ported one.  I have put thousands of rounds throung my .454, and quite a few small cast going really fast, and got lots of lead in there.  You do have to clean it, but it doesn't clog the ports, they are self cleaning becasue of all the gas flow, most of the lead build up goes on the side of the cut outs right above the ports.

My Raging Bull in .454 Casull has shot NOTHING but cast in the many years I've owned it.

The buildup of crud around the ports is all boolit lube, and though annoying, it hurts nothing.

However, never allow any body parts above those ports when firing!

Lube huh?  I've got soot from burning lube with fast bullets, but never really had them going slow enough for lube to actually collect.  Have cleaned the lead out of the cutouts above the ports a few times though.  When I get home from work (two and half weeks, hooray oilfields:))I'll go shoot the crap out of it, and get some good leading pictures for you guys.
