100 miles due north of you Petroleum County, most ranchers like Chris King would welcome you as he runs a lot of cattle on his place and the coyotes are heck on his calves.

I'm investing in a Johnny Steward Predator 2 e-caller and some hand calls.

For those that don't know where we are talking about http://russell.visitmt.com/listings/11088.HTM and http://fwp.mt.gov/lands/site_282209.aspx

And when the snowgoose are flying

Well looks like you won't be able to shoot no wolf this year John, just big coyotes.

I have to wonder if perhaps the report of lots of coyotes in the WMA might have to do with wolves driving them out of the hills..that is besides being the poultry department of the Predator Grocery store.

Wildlife Mgmt isn't like baking a cake. You don't add two eggs, baking powder, flour, stir and cook for 20 minutes. Everyone likes to blame predators for all the problems. Coyotes in this instance, but we have study after study that shows coyotes are far less detrimental to waterfowl populations than fox, raccoon, bullsnakes ect. In fact, many of our national wildlife refuges do not allow taking of coyotes because the coyote will eliminate the other predators and in the overall scheme of things, the coyotes will take less waterfowl.

The article states that coyote hunting is allowed. Obviously we as predator hunters aren't doing our part to help reduce the numbers or possibly the private lands surrounding Freezeout is locked up thus providing a sanctuary, or possibly the guy was a poor hunter that likes to complain, or possibly it was a blue bird day, you see where this is going........

Anyway, I doubt many of us who frequent this board like the idea of government hunters swooping in to eliminate the coyote. That song has been played all over the west and is getting pretty old.

This hunter/shooter is from my area, and probably expected to find a real abundance of coyotes in there, but got few.

He probably really had to work at getting them to come in, and sounds like the way hunting should be, instead of just shooting them while they wait for you.
