Barrels that won't mount on your frame
« on: February 25, 2008, 09:24:08 AM »
I have a OE with a muzzleloader barrel and a 45-70 barrel.  The 45-70 barrel appears to be faulty.  The hinge pin won't go in the frame without being handled very violently.  Once the hinge pin is in the gun is extremely hard to shut and once the gun has been shut you can't even cock the hammer on the frame.  My .50 cal barrel on the other hand can be mounted with hardly any effort.  Am I missing something (I don't think I am) or am I correct in assuming the something is wrong with my barrel that the pin won't fit and it does not sit right in my gun?
Thanks

I'd call CVA and get their advice, sounds like you have a defective barrel that needs to be replaced. Mark never did answer my email about the 300WM barrels, so I dunno what's up with that.  :-\

I had a Bergara barrel that had a similar problem. It was for a T/C though. The inside of the hole had a lip on it that didn't want to go down. I finally got it worn down and buffed down somewhat and its a tight fit but it works fine. Tim I also never did get a reply from Mark...

Sounds to me you peened the barrel lug on it...It's easy to do if you don't have it lined up correctly and whack the heck out of the hinge pin on assembly...Call the company...and explain it to them..see what they say

I had a 50 cal and a 243 barrel that did same thing.  50cal did fine but new 243 would be tight and sometimes you could not cock hammer and stay back.  Called cva and he said to push forward on barrel opener while cocking and it just needed breaking in.

theduke,
Thanks!  I had this barrel in a box for a long time due to two moves and a new baby.  I just pulled it out and did what you said and it worked!  THANKS!

Glad it's not just me...after a few rounds and a good cleaning it works great. I use Kroil on the ramp to help.
