Beaver Bait ??????
« on: October 15, 2003, 12:30:59 PM »
I have some Questions for Mister Bogmaster.
Sir, If I use a breaded pan fried pork chop on my conibear trigger will I catch a Beaver?
 Would a Hotdog work better?
How close to the water must I set my trap?
Is a 110 big enough trap for this set?
What do you do, when you catch a beaver useing a pork chop or a Hotdog for bait?
Do I remake the set where it is ? or move the set ?
If I must move the set, do I move it closer to the water or farther away?
Should I reuse the uneaten bait or use fresh bait?
My freind said that Pork chops and hotdogs are the best bait for beaver. Also he said, that when you skin a beaver. All you have to do is hook his teeth in a vice and tie his tail to the bumper of your truck. Then gun the motor and dump the cluch. Is this true?

Silly me
It is called white rabbit by jefferson airplane, not feed your head.
I think I drank from the wrong bottle and all it did was shrink my head instead of feeding it.

Back to the skinning part...what do you have your vice attached to?  Could you substitute Vise Grips wired to a fence post?  What modifications do you suggest for coyotes?

Lastly what in the heck is a clutch and how do you use one to take a dump?

You old timers need to splain things so as we youngns can understand!

RdFx wht did you play music to the Victory Crowd?

lose something real important down in that p-trap again, rdfx???
The newer PVC pipe fittings unscrew really quickly. All compression fittings these days with little pipe dope to reseal, too. Goes real fast.

rdfx:
seen that elbow set done with tile spade or post hole digger, too. hole cut back into bank at water level, and one down from top of bank to link up with other hole. Supposed to be a good water-fluctuating set if you block lower hole with a #110. Haven't figured out good way to block upper hole...but most rat bank den air holes look like this set and the upper hole is mostly an entry point anyway. if the hole goes all way through to lower hole, the mink will follow it on out. lot of work to dig this set out, though. I like your concept of PVC with elbows instead....light, fast setup, white color for eye appeal.
I have some 5' sections of 4" black corregated drain tile, and now you have my wheels a turnin' on using them instead for this setup....

Elbow set
« Reply #16 on: October 17, 2003, 01:21:58 AM »
Jim i use 110s top and bottom of set  and have dug elbows  in firm ground  that would hold up and use white and black pvc (straight and just bury it with bottom end under water and top end on bank.  With straight pvc the 110 sits in a partial angle.  Sometimes i put footholds in bottom  as mink use back feet to push off to go up tunnel or pvc and get caught.  WOrks with or without bait in tunnel.   One yr  when i was trying to avoid coon when pelts were low price and mink high  i avoided baiting elbow sets and i caught just as many coon .  The coon were  blind feeling around for food at entrances (fish, crayfish) and got caught.  Oh well LOL

Well all I can say is that you may get away with using that smelly PVC pipe for mink and coon but it won't work for K-9s...I'll stick to the chrome plated stuff.  PVC has no place on my line and never will.  If I can smell it so can a coyote. :?

...and don't get me started on chain length on the drain plugs!  I did scientific tests on 16 traps.  Some where set under sinks (both double and sinigle basin types) and some under tubs and there is no question 16 inches of chain is the best

Cable may work on those pewny critters in Jersy but...well what ever.

Pan fried Pork chops may be a fair bait but a really great bait is Stewed Burro.

Well WC you have to forgive crusty ol Newt  being a Jersey meadow roamer all he can think of is pork!!  Personally i like horse first and burrow second.  Sure beats  catching mice  :>)  Also stewing the burrow takes out alot of flavor.  I gets some good hot mesquite coals and singe the horse meat to keep the juices in!!!
