heavier loads for 7.92 kurz?
« on: October 26, 2009, 06:56:46 AM »
Anyone know of any load data for something heavier than the 125 gr bullet for the 7.92 kurz (7.92 x 33)? I was really hoping to find something in the 150-180 gr bullet weight range. All I seem to find is four different loads all for the hornady 125gr.

HEavier bullets are certainly no problem with all the 8mm mauser selections but
I agree you have a problem finding load data.  I think you will  have to use
one of the theoritical load data programs that take into account all the
factors including the density and burn speed and power of various powders.
The heavier bullet will require a slower powder and less of it.
See if you can find anything close in another caliber. For instance
to find out about 8mm Mauser data extrapolition, just look at
the .308  as it has near identical capacity to bore size ratio etc.

In your case, I wonder if  load data from 7.62 x 39  for heavier bullets
might not give you some direction.

the logic is that it is a similarly smaller caliber compared to 308 as
is the Kurtz to the 8mm Mauser.     I love to use the little
Kuitx bullets btw in my  8MM Mauser.  turns into a screaming
varminter gun with explosive bullets.

I got hold of the guy who did the test barrels for Hornady with the 125 gr bullets and we talked via email a few times. He also suggested using the 7.62 x 39 as a starting point with some other suggestions. I was looking over the slower burning powders and the ~150 gr bullets with the different loading manuals. I won't finish the rifle build probably until May, so I have a while to look up some more data and download some software.
