Good Muzzleloader for 300 bucks.

My son is 12 now and has a .243 Win. The problem is we want to do the muzzleloader season and we live in shotgun only (southern Wis.) A muzzy would be good for shotgun areas. Question is what would be a good muzzleloader? I hope to find one made in USA but they seem real high. I know there is an H&R but never saw one. Any suggestions?

Ihookem:   Check out Sportsmans Guide,  as they ususaly have some Knights for under $200.  I picked up a blue/black composit  50 cal Extreme for $179 on Gunbroker.. shoots under inch-and-a-half at 100 yds with a scope on it..  HTH.. Les

I agree with both guys. Knights are still on Gunbroker for $179 Hope they sell out soon as I can't take it much more. The CVA Accura is one sweet shootin SOB Cabelas has em for $299 with $30 off till the 17th. Every Knight I have ever owned shot great and the Accura with a 200gr. SW and 90 grs. of BH209 is amazing, has an excellent trigger also.

Both of the rifles are great guns.  I do not own and do not vision ever owning an Accura, I do own an shoot several Knight DISC rifles and they a truly are a great gun.  

One of the folks that I have great respect for has the Accura and gives it a passing grade on almost every aspect - so in mind it is a great rifle also.

The difference being...
The Knight is what i would call old technolgy - tried and tested for years and the Accura is new technology being tested and seemingly catching on very well.

Try to find a Knight or a T/C.  The Knight is the best of the 2.

i disagree. Knight is done. What are you going to do in the next 2 years if & when your knight no longer sets off primers or the trigger breaks?

As usual you live in your own little world.

Knight parts are readily available and replacing a Knight DISC trigger is as simple as ordering a replacement timmney and others from many different vendors.  If you have a Knight DISC there really is not much in them that can go wrong, unless you loose the whole bolt assembly.

The problem with the T/Cs is that they are bored too tight IMO.  I'd much rather have a Knight or my 700ML.  They load easy and still shoot tiny groups.

For how long? Knight recently had a sale off of gunz at thier Iowa location (two friends of mine bought rifles at thier auction) They were told that they could have any repairs made at that location for the forseeable future. One had a problem, sent his gun to be repaired......it came back to him from elsewhere...not Iowa as he was told.

Buy a WHOLE BUNCHA discs now!!!!!!!

The repair facility was moved to Alabama several years ago. So if the gun was turned in to the Iowa locaton it was sent by them to Alabama for warranty work.  Gordy runs the repair facility.  He has indicated he has a two year contract to provide services.

The DISC's are going to be available even the future - another company has looked at them and has indicated they are a very simple thing to reproduce.  As long as there is a demand the DISC's can be had.... even then you can switch to the NFPJ breech plug which does not require the DISC.

Again when dealing with the DISC gun - they are such a simple gun it would be easy to repair most anything on them... The bolt comes apart very easily - breaks down to a hammer - spring - and housing.  That is about all there is...

Well then I wouldn't hang my hopes on more than two years!

What "other company"? And do you think they can be depended on?????

BTW, you seem to have missed that "They were told that they could have any repairs made at that location for the forseeable future." Which is NOT what happened and leaves me wondering just how good the comapanies word is concerning a product they no longer have a financial interest in!

In April i went to a large store to buy a muzzleloader. I had $600 to spend. I bought the CVA Wolf for $150. I am very happy with it.

This is one of the great classic inline muzzleloaders. They are no longer made, when new it would have cost $100 more.
