Camo painting a gun yourself

I have done some searching, and have not found what I am looking for. Has anyone painted there own predator, or turkey guns? Any tutorials on how it is done, or the proper steps to take?

The beauty of camo painting is its hard to mess up.  You can always add another color.

Here are some things to consider.

1.  Preparation is critical.  If you've got any oil the paint won't stick.  I always disassemble my guns completely, wash and bead blast them.  You can use a solvent such as acetone to wipe down the metal parts as well.  In some cases I use a "scotch bright" pad to prep parts that I don't want to bead blast (ie my scopes).

2.  Plug, tape over or otherwise protect anything you don't want painted.

3.  I use a variety of application methods.  Primarily a small paint sprayer or air brush and sponge parts. 

4.  Use paint if you wish, its cheap and can always be touched up.  There are better products available that provide more protection for your gun and a longer more durable finish.  Check with Brownells for the various products.  All depends on how meticulous you want to be and how long you want it to last.

4.  Application.  Spray a base color.  I allow to fully dry.  After the base color dry I reassemble the gun, mount the rings and scope.  This allows you to camo continuously across the stock, action/bbl and scope.

5.  Then I usually cut patterns with tape or cover with tape anything I want to remain in the primary base color and top coat with color #2.  Then I typically freehand spray with one or two more colors for effect.  You can also spray paint onto a paper plate and use a sponge dipped into the paint to make random camo effects. 

6.  Some folks use grass brush or other laid across their guns in lieu of a stencil.  Rule of thumb...if you use tape you will get a sharp distinct line.  If you lay leaves on your gun as a stencil you will get some sharp lines, but mostly an indistinct line.

Also do some internet searches.  Some of the websites maintained strictly for varmit hunting or sniper talk have quite a bit of information on camo application.

I painted a Savage 24 with Krylon 4 years ago and it is holding up very well.

I have a friend that paints his guns he wants camo. He'll start with a good base coat of olive drab and/or tan then go around his yard and pick up leaves of different types and lay them against the stock and spray over them. The image behind it when removed is a perfect leaf. He's painted guns for me and many others that have seen his work. About seven years ago he did the same to his Chevy truck. He's had to touch it up a time or two since then but to this day people will still ask him about his paint job and offer to hire him to do a truck for them.

This is not a predator gun but my old Stevens 22LR.  Since you may have already painted your gun I won't include all of the details on how I did it unless you ask.
