Encore 308 Rifle question
« on: September 01, 2009, 06:33:05 AM »
What bullet weights seem to work better for you in your 308 Encore rifle?  If anyone has a good receipe and willing to share I'd appreciate it very much.

Start with 44 grains of Varget and a 150 grain Sierra Pro Hunter spitzer and work up from there in half-grain increments. Also, starting at 43 grains of Re-15 and the 150 grain Ballistic Tip should put you on the road to some fantastic groups. It has for me and several others.

Start with Varget at 42 grains and work up for accuracy (should be around 42.5 to 44) - CCI primer - REM brass - Rem PSPCL's for practice (125 and 150's) - Hornady SST's and Interbonds (150 - 180) for hunting and 110's for Varmits.

Not to hijack the post but what is the twist rate on TC and Bergara barrels for .308? That could make a difference on bullet weight.

My Encore likes 150 grain Corelokts and RL-15.

I have good luck with 125, 130, and 150g bullets.  Really likes the 130g hollow point for some reason.  Using varget powder and CCI primers.  The twist rate is 1 in 10 and works with heavy bullets and subsonic loads.  180 grain bullets at 950fps punch nice round holes at 100 yards out of my TC but tumble out of my Remington which is a 1 in 12 twist.  I am sure the TC will stabilize heavy bullets at high velocity but I have not had a reason to shoot anything over 165g at high velocity.  If you are ever interested in shooting heavy subsonic loads through a suppressor the TC barrel works very well.
