I have a M-93 Hornet. When I first got it I tried Hornady shells, out of 25 shots I had
8 that stuck in the chamber had to use my cleaning rod to get them out'.While a freind
was checking it out for me he found that the sear had a chip out of it. So I sent it back
to Savage, they sent it back in about 2 weeks. I fired 15 rounds of factory shells through
it yesterday they all ejected find, I shot 10 reloads and they were fine. I reloaded those
reloaded shells last night and fired them today 2 went in kind of hard and when I fired
them they stuck in the chamber and had to use my cleaning rod to get them out, these
were just neck sized. By the way the sear still has the chip in it, they didnt replace it.
I only paid $130.00 plus tax for it. So Iam not out to much, if it were up to me Id buy
some other gun probably a CZ 527. As for the Hornet I like it. Good Luck Deathray

I have never seen information from Savage that a 22 hornet could or should be fired in that rifle. Are you sure you weren't trying to drive a square peg into a round hole there? Isn't the 22 Hornet a centerfire cartridge....How is that supposed to work in a rimfire rifle?

Savage makes a Model 40 single shot .22 hornet.  Is that what you're talking about?  If it's a newer bolt-action rifle, that's probably it.  It looks like it was based on the 93, but its a little different.  The only other .22 hornet that savage made (that I know of) was the model 219 single shot, which was a break-open.  I have one of those, but its not quite as accurate as my Ruger 77/22 Hornet.

He is referring to the right rifle!

It's a model 93 not a 93R17. Here's a link to one!

Savage made a short run of them.

Either way...I'll never spend money on a .22 Hornet chambered Savage rifle again! At least until they decide to use a different action!

Here's the dope:
I set up a Savage 93 .22 Hornet with a Riflebasix trigger and Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 scope. I added sling swivel studs and a Super sling, and I was out to the range to test ammo. .
I laid in a supply of Remington and Winchester 40-grain HP and SP. Since the purpose of the rifle was to protect the haystack from whitetail, I also picked up some S&B 40-grain FMJ's.
While sighting-in, I pulled the bolt several times and brushed the bore like the books say to do. The bolt is a little tricky to re-install if the lugs aren't perfectly lined up, but I got over it.
Results were awesome. The total package was about $300 and the rifle posted 1/2" groups @ 100 yards with any ammo I tried. The trigger was set at 1-lb 2-oz.
The action is quite long and the barrel is nearly the same diameter as the action, so it requires high rings. The barrel has about six inches captive within the action, so the combination is quite stiff, with no part of the barrel touching the stock.
If there is one design flaw, it is the entrance to the chamber. It can be a little tricky to start the cartridge. Aside from that, I wish I could find another. Better yet, I wish they would make one in Left-Hand! The .17 HMR and 22Mag is available in LH, so why not the Hornet?
If you want an inexpensive Hornet, buy it. Install a Riflebasix trigger. You'll like it.
