DETROIT -- Michigan is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to order closure of shipping locks near Chicago to prevent Asian carp from invading the Great Lakes.

Attorney General Mike Cox filed a lawsuit Monday with the nation's highest court. It says the ravenous carp would threaten thousands of jobs if they get into the lakes.

Bighead and silver carp from Asia have been migrating northward in the Mississippi and Illinois rivers for decades. They have been detected in canals and rivers south of Chicago that open into Lake Michigan.

Officials poisoned a section of the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal this month to prevent the carp from getting closer to Lake Michigan while an electrical barrier was taken down for maintenance.

They're no big deal really. We've had them my entire life and they are no more numerous today than when I was a boy. They fill their little nitch in the environment and when young are even food for the larger predator fish. They don't eat the same foods as the vast majority of game fish so what's the big deal? Sure I'd rather we didn't have them also but geez it's not the end of the world for fishing if they show up there. Just teah all the blacks you have up there to like them as they do here in the south and let them take care of them for you.

The Wisconsin Attorney General is also filing a lawsuit over the matter. You know, I just don't see why they should be there in these numbers. A commercial fisherman could have those stupid fish caught in no time. Run a trolley net across the top while cranking up an outboard and scoop them things up and send them to the damn prisons for the inmates to eat! Tastes like chicken. Why does everything so simple have to be so hard as soon as the government gets involved? I hear they taste like tuna. I would eat them if they were good. They thrive in cold water too.

Here's my recipe for carp:

Taken one large carp and one long wood slab. Lay carp on slab in the sun in summer for two days. After two days toss the carp and eat the board. Tastes MUCH better.  :o

Seriously I don't know any white folks in the south that eat them but blacks seem to have a decided preference for them. They are a highly sought after fish in Europe for both catching and eating. It's all a matter of taste. I like to catch them but don't eat them. I have heard it said tho that if you cut out the lateral line and the dark meat along it then what's left is quite tasty meat.

There yah go ,start exporting them big Asian carp! Straight to China just when them Chinese are all about to starve to death here we come with our rescue mission loaded up with "highly sought after Asian carp". We can trade them up even for the debt we owe them. We get our money back and they don't go hungry!
