We just acquired a 1980 Grady-White,model Marlin,(20') with a 170hp. I/O,Merc-Cruiser. The model of the engine is 470. Read up a little on this unit. It runs real good, but vibrates a bit when warming up. Seems that this unit is real hard on the motor mounts. They look alright. Any tell tale signs as to when they might go bad. The other thing I learned is, front seals go bad and might get a little oil leak. Seems there are 2 seals, when the first one goes, best to replace both, as when the second one starts to leak, possible get water in the oil system. And we all know that isn't good.
It's been a Lake Erie boat from day one, as I know the previous owner, and he knew the original owner. So, considering fishing time here on the western basin of Erie, even though it's almost 30 years old, running time on the motor is the same as maybe 10 years anywhere else. Anybody give me any heads up on this baby. Looking forward to alot of walleye and perch time next summer. gypsyman
