First off, this barrel which I'm referring to, has an early style rear sight which is 1 9/16" in length. The elevation screw does not screw into the base of the sight, as on the newer sights, but rather into the barrel itself. There are only 3 holes, not 4, drilled and tapped in the barrel and these holes do not line up with the holes on the newer style sights.
Are there any after market rear sights, that anyone has used or can recommend, which would be applicable to this barrel?
Second, has anyone tried replacing a front sight, or adapting same, with a fiber optic type sight? The present sight on this barrel is of the solder on variety. I had thought of filing down the blade portion of the sight, D&T and putting in something like the following.
http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=51364/pid=0/sku/Sightlink_Green_Front_Sight__2___5_1cm_The idea here is to improve the sights. The eyes haven't seen 20 in a few decades, so their not what they used to be. If none of this is feasable, then, does anyone have a spare elevation screw that would work here and I'll just leave it as it is. Lost the screw at the range late yesterday naturally. I've got screws with the correct thread pitch but not the correct style head nor length. I could just grind one down until I found the right length and use a washer under the head, but that would be to easy!
