Another day with the Pardner....
« on: December 13, 2009, 12:02:29 PM »
Finally warmed up today (34 degrees) so I was able to head forest again in the great Northwoods! Wandered around the NW part of the public grounds (2200 + acres over there) got 3 squirrels and a rabbit with the .410, Lots of yote tracks around my 2 gut piles east of the house. Missed a yote last friday, 217 yard shot (marked with range finder) with the 25-06 handy little high as I saw the snow fall of the branches behind him, sure sent him moving though.
well off to bait the trap line, we had 17 inches of snow last week, so trapping been a little slower.......

Its good to be alive this time of year....

Sounds like a great day to me! I'm planning on putting the snowshoes on soon and bringing the 20 gauge Pardner out for some partridge hunting before the season closes Dec. 31st.

Nope, located in the northern part of wisconsin, about 100 miles from lake superior.  nothing  but woods, critters, and a few good neighbors, in fact we only have about 6 houses within 4 miles around us. I can walk across the little one lane road and hit the hunting grounds. to give you a idea on how big the grounds are, they are .5 narrowest part to 1 mile wide and its 10.2 miles from one end of the public grounds to the other...... :o

Now if I could ever get use to the %$#%# cold weather, coldest last year was -47 degrees, actual tempature.....

lived in northern Ny when I was younger & we had big woods as well. Not many deer but always managed at least one. Lots of grouse, rabbits, & squirells to hunt as a kid. Kinda miss all that space to roam. Mike

you know some days are better than others.....headed out to check trap line today and I either I had a brain fart or the one of the latches stuck and one of the girls from our rescue got out (we do animal /dog rescues for the county animal control) anyways, after 4.5 hours I finally caught up with the girl! man, she sure does better in the snow than I do......

anyways, deer are fairly plentiful around here, even see the occassional elk, feral hog, yotes, wolves, bears, cougars are here but dont see them much. so far trapped 30+ coons, 1 red fox. beginning of the year was not what it normally is...

Guess, I never thought of NY as having much woods left to hunt in, thought it was just mostly concrete jungle......

Yeah it was bring the ole girl back home that was the problem. she tends to get a little moody when things don't go her way......
