Winchester USA ammo any good?
« on: November 27, 2009, 06:36:23 AM »
My Remington model 700 BDL 223 Rem. absolutely loves Winchester's USA 45 gr. JHP ammo (White Box). It shoots about 5/8" of an inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards. That's measuring center to center of the two farthest holes.

Right now it's zeroed 2 inches high at 100 yards. I think I'm going to lower that to about 1 1/4 inches high at 100 yards.

How do the Winchester USA 45 gr. JHP's work on coyotes out to 200 yards or so?

After deer season my son (8) and I are going to hunt coyotes.

They work Great !!  Have used them on Coyote, Coydogs and Ground hogs ..   They Get the Job done.  I like the Hornady 55gr and 60gr V-max's alot better But the Winchester 45 hp does just fine.

Hi,I use them in my AR and bolt guns. I also use the 22-250 Rem. in the white box and love it.
Here's some pics. to see how they work for me. All of these were taken with the 223 Rem. but the bobcat was with the 22-250 Rem.

Several years ago, when a I had a .223 bolt gun, that's all I used for prairie dogs.  If I had another one, this ammo is a good deal and worked every time when I used it before.

They are about the most accurate factory ammo I've found for my single shot Rossi.  Trouble is that none of the sporting goods stores carry them any more around here. :-[
They used to be $13.00 for a 40 round box.  I'm rationing my last few while I work on a comparible hand load.  I've come close with a 50 grain V-Max, but not quite like the 45 grain JHP.
Thanks,

When I got my .223 NEF barrel, Tim said the WW "USA" 45gr HP white box rounds were the "gold standard" for NEFs..and it sure worked out that way for me.
Here's a question for the "yoters" here. I have quite a few FMJ 55 gr Wolf, Black Hills & WW "USA" rounds on hand are they good medicine for & these big eastern coyotes ?
