Muzzle Loader Tag...
« on: December 13, 2009, 09:26:36 AM »
A bit of a debate occured at a relatives concerning the deer tag when using a muzzle loader...

I don't hunt with one of them so I really wasn't sure...

Do you use the antlered tag that comes with the license and the doe tag that you get if you apply for one and get it?

If you shoot a buck and a doe in the regular season--the one that just ended yesterday, are you then not able to hunt with a muzzle loader since you have no tags?

Thanks...BCB

That is my understanding of it.

I didn't get the ML tag this year, but when I did in the past they don't give you "another" tag - so if you tag out in regular season then.... you're out I guess.

To answer your questions...yes and yes

If you did not get a buck in archery or rifle and you have a muzzleloader license, you may harvest either a buck or a doe anywhere in the state during flintlock season. All other unused antlerless tags can only be used within their specific WMU for doe only.

from the digest...
Flintlock Muzzleloader (Either Sex, Statewide):
Dec. 26-Jan. 9, 2010
One antlered deer per hunting license year or one antlerless deer and
an additional antlerless deer with each valid WMU specific antlerless
license. Must have a muzzleloader stamp.

O.K.  Let me see if I understand…

Assuming one has a valid Muzzle Loader Stamp…

If one has an unused buck tag, it can be used for a buck OR a doe any where in the state…

If one has an antlerless tag, the muzzle loader hunter can harvest a doe, but only in the area the antlerless license was issued for…

So, that hunter could get a buck and a doe, or 2 does legally…

Oh boy, glad I only hunt the minimum allowed with the hunting license…

Thanks again…BCB
