Tight barrel
« on: December 03, 2009, 04:23:31 AM »
I bundeled up my six barrels and headed into the Sierra Nevada for a fine fall day of shooting. I have recently purchased a used 14inch in 22lr. It shot fine, but is hard to open. It closes easily, but is a bear to open. The other barrels don't do this. Where do I smack it with a ballpeen to fix this?

I had the same problem with two of mine. I worked the side of the locking lug that contacts the frame as you close it with a stone until it acted right. Didn't have to take very much off. Barrels lock up now and shoot great and no more problems.

The locking lug is too tight that is the first thing to check some barrels have a two piece lock and some have a one piece lug. Look at the lug and you can see the difference. you can use a fine stone on it, hit it a couple of times be sure to keep at the angle that is on the lug remount barrel and check may have to do a number of times. I bought a new barrel and even had to do it this way. I also have a barrel that will not open on any frame but the one it came on when I got gun. You might contact TC and get a new 2 piece lug if yours is the older 1 piece,Hope this will give you a start others will have more Ideas to help you.
