Yes Pete that was truly a bear of a life time for me... I will sit down and tell the story about the big one that lives for another day. Until you are sitting there only 12 yards away from such a beast will you understand the story.

Neat pics thanks for sharing guys.

So pretty much unscathed? That's a good way to go if so. It will be there another day, or maybe night only?

Is that a sow?  Looks like a really fat sow to me.  It's weird how the rear hip extends so far forward.  Nevertheless, I'm sure being 12 yards from that BEAST would pretty much take your breath away.  Gotta be what, 550-600?

The picture has a water spot on it that makes the rear hip look odd.
That is a big bear.

That was my first thought, but the water spot moved.  Anyhow, I'm sure you're right.

Bears don't 'carry' cubs.

They breed in the spring, but the embryo basically goes dormant for the summer. The small babys crawl out of the womb in the winter while the mother is hibernating. Suckle the winter, until she wakes up, by then they are little pups. They will stay with her the entire first year and den with her that winter. The cubs will stay with her most of the next year also. Then she will run them off.

You see a sow with li'l pups, those are 1st year cubs born that past winter. You see a sow with a couple of black labs, those are second year cubs.

That is just one big fat bear.
