Old barrel new frame question?

I have a Stainless frame from year 2000 up and wondered if there is any problems attaching a .44mag bull barrel from the 70's to it.  I have read something about one "lug type and Locking bolts" here,   (censored word)

Is this going to be a problem.  I want to be able to load to near max loads but not push the envelope.

Please read the posts at the top of the forum before posting.

In a few rare cases barrels won't fit some frames.  G2 muzzleloader barrels and some aftermarket barrels are made to only fit G2s.  Sometimes locking bolts will have to be replaced on older barrels to get the best function on newer frames.  Old one piece bolts work best if replaced with the newer two piece style.  And with both style at times the bolts need to be polished to fit.

None of this is hard to do and will work well.  Good luck.

Sorry for the "censored word". I have read them all and still unsure what I did I'll be sure to go back again.

I didn't mention that I have a contender frame with the Cougar head on the side not a G2.  If that makes a difference.

If you go to his page and Listen you'll get wrapped in all the hype to buy all the stuff he sells to make your frame shoot straight
 Do your self a favor and look around here you'll find a ton of Great info and 100% free
Over sized this and that and all the other things he states MAY help some
But more than not people shoot there TC's without his Costly additions and shoot them very well

Your stainless frame is an "easy open" vintage - the best Contender frames TC made IMO.   As for the locking bolts on your 44MAG barrel... from the 70's (whether octagon or bull) it is probably a T-3 (flat base/set screw) or T-4 (flat base/roll pin) barrel with a solid locking bolt that you'd probably want to upgrade to a split bolt for the best operation on your frame.   They are very easy to install and can be obtained from TC.   Of late I've heard TC is now charging you for these parts that they used to just give away.   They can't cost much though and actually they should have always charged for them IMO.

You'll "push the envelope" on what you can stand in recoil long before you'll push it on that frame with the 44MAG barrel (especially if its a 10" octagon).   Just watch for normal pressure signs as you work up your load and you'll be fine.

Well it seems to be a problem...  The barrel promptly stuck in the closed position.  I had to remove the trigger group and coax the lugs back with a screw driver as mentioned many times here on the forum.

I called Customer Service today and was pleasantly surprised to hear they have not yet begun to charge for the split lugs and will be sending a replacement out quickly.  No Charge!  Didn't even want shipping from me.
