Oops, my bad...nobody has dyslexia.....I stated it backwards, but its more of a question than a statement.   Looks like a 1-12 is only for light bullets and if I want to shoot something for hunting like over 55 gr. then 1-12 isn't going to be very accurate and HR/NEF doesn't make anything but a 1-9.  But is a 1-9 better for hunting weight bullets than a 1-12?  Is that saying that the 1-9 would be a better all around twist in a standard Handi?  So the general rule would be....lighter bullet-slower twist--1-12,  heavier bullet-faster twist--1-9.  Most lighter ones are shorter and faster and bigger ones are longer and slower........right...??  So if I want to shoot 55 and up for hunting then which one?  Quick, I know you shoot 1-12 and apparently have good luck with it but how about you guys that are shooting the newer 1-9 barrels...how they doing?

My M 700 has a 1-12 and loves 60-62 grain hollow points. I know many that shoot 75 grain Amax in 1-9 Savage barreled guns. Just because you have a 1-9 does NOT mean that it wont shoot bug holes with a 40 grain bullet! The fast twist allows you to shoot a heaver bullet but it sure don't hurt to try the light ones either, unless it is the SPSX Hornady which will blow up before it hits the target! Their is only one way to see what your gun likes, and that is to try different weights and brands.

Somebody is shooting the 1-9 aren't they.  Isn't the bushmasters and armalites and the Rem. R15 all 1-9 twists.

Some AR's all Savage/Stevens among others. It is the common twist now because it works with most bullets, not all but most. Like I said, just because it has a 1/9 does NOT mean that it won't shoot a 40-50 grain bullet than all others it shoots. The Winchester white box 46 grain H.P. is a perfect example. A lot of 1-12 and 1-9 twist rifles will shoot these as well as anything out there. My thought is that todays better bullets allow rifles with faster twists to shoot with the rifles that have a slower twist in the field.
