Auction guns need's Repairs
« on: November 29, 2009, 03:42:46 AM »
My skeet shooting partner and I together have bought about 8 or 9 shotguns the last couple years on Gun broker's Auctions. All but two had something wrong with them. Everything from bent barrels, 2 1/2 chambers, safty's would not work , miss fires & dents in barrels. So, watch out. I know most of you can send them back but it is a lot of troubles. You can come out if you are a part time gunsmith and can build parts and replace hammer springs. No one takes care of a guns anymore.
Few will give correct describtions.

I really prefer to hold a gun in my hand before I spend money on it. I'd guess I'm about 50-50 on success with guns bought sight unseen but it's been enough to really sour me on buying that way unless I know and trust the person I'm buying from really well.

I sometimes purchase new guns from the auction sites, but only from two different dealers that I fully trust. And that's only when they have a super great deal going on an item. Their policies are that no boxes are ever opened. They just pull the sealed box from the warehouse and ship it to your FFL holder. So I felt that I really wasn't taking any chances since each gun had a full manufacturer's warranty. My best deal so far was a Brand Spanking New Rem CDL in 35 Whelen for $489.00. It would have cost only $469.00, but I used the seller's 3 month lay-a-way option and that cost an extra $20.00. I'd have to look at a used gun first before I'd buy it, so I'd probably pass on the auction sites for used weapons.
