Is the .35 remington based off of the 30-30 case or is it another cartridge altogether? Sorry for the dumb question but I have never seen a .35 remington cartridge.

The 30-30 has a rim, the 35 is rimless.  It's not based on the 30-30 or vice versa.

i  have  reformed  35  into  308

they   worked  fine

then  i found out they are  different

some  reloading kits  have a different shell holder  for  308  and   35

while  others use the same shell holder

35 was developed in  1906    but  it  not  a 35-06    that is a whelen...confused?

While reloading some 35 Rem the other night, I came across a 35 Rem shell that wouldn't fit the RCBS #9 shell holder. It was to fat to fit in the slot. ???

As previously stated, I own both a Marlin 35 and Marlin 30-30 rifles. I shot 2 doe last Saturday with my 35 Rem using my handloads with 158gr Hornaday JHP's. One was shot at 166 yards and one was shot at 30 feet !! I am still developing accurate loads for the 30-30 using 150gr Speers. I love them both but favor the 35 Rem...

Well, I have carried Marlin rifles in both calibers many, many hours hunting here in NH, and have never shot anything with any Marlin. I think they are a jinx to me. If I carry a half converted mauser, I see horns, and if I carry a Winchester, or Ruger, I see deer usually. My old Winchester 94 30-30 has killed a few deer in the family since it was bought new around 1959, and it still goes out at least once a year. I would love to use my Marlin .35 Remington, but so far no luck. NH is a great place to hunt, but a poor place to find compared to many areas in the country.

dee is right a 30-30 will kill anything on this contient............may not be my first choice if i went to alaska but if all of the sudden i was in alaska nad a big griz was 50 yds from me i wouldnt hesitate in putting a 170 gr bullet in it...............never been up north but i have read where alot of moose grizs and polar bears have been dropped with 30-30's.....i think when you hear about the ones that got away or the wounded bear getting a hunter who wounded it is when he made a bad shot.........not the guns fault...its the hunters fault...........mack
