7.62x39mm reloading data?
« on: December 02, 2009, 04:13:26 PM »
I read an old post that said use bench mark powder! I went to the hodgdon sight and could not find any reloading data for bench mark! Lots of different data for other powders for the 7.62x39mm ! I will be using the 123 or 125 grain v max hornady bullet! Any help with choice of powder would be great! I am also looking for places to find data online for this round! Hodgdon is the only easy place to find data for me so far! So any help would be great! Thank you Dale

My "go to" load with 123-125 bullets in 7.62x39 for both bolt action and gas guns is 22.5 gr H4227 for use in cases with LR primers and 23 r in RP cases using SR primers.  Accuracy excellent and velocity/pressures are consistant with milsurp ammo.

benchmark is to slow for good velocity in the 762x39. Probably the best powder and one that was designed just for the round is 1680/680

Like Lloyd says Accurate 1680 or WC680 milsurp are great for the 7.62x39mm

In my experience H335 tends to be too slow to get top velocities with 12Xgrain bullets. Works great for 150grn+ though

AA1680 or even better N-120 are really the two powders you need to be looking at.

another powder ive had good luck with using 120-125s is ramshot terminator. Ive used it in a few differnt round and ive come to believe its nothing but a slightly faster burning batch of 2230aa

My two favorite powders for X39 out of my SKS rifles with any 123 to 125 gr. SP,FMJ or V-MAX is either AA1680 hard to get locally or my go to powder Reloader #7.  I've had good success with IMR-4198 and the V-MAX also.  Lyman #49 manual has lots of good powder/bullet options for the X39 rd.  I'm going to get some H4198 soon and work up some loads with it also.
