stocks on wood Handis

The plain wood stocks that come with the 30-30 and 45-70 Handis seem to have quite a bit of drop at the comb and are shaped for aiming with the iron sights. Would those stocks work well enough if mounting a scope ?

If you don't like the way the iron-sight stock lines up with your scope, it's not that expensive to buy a monte carlo stock from H&R or elsewhere.  Go to the website and look under customer support-->barrel accessory program.  Not far from the top is a list of the replacement stocks.

I prefer the standard iron sight stock and use them with scopes all the time.  They are lighter & look better IMO.

Point taken, Swamp.  Now, if only they sold those nice BC stocks on their website.  I don't know why they don't.  All I have seen is that soft pallet wood that I end up having to refinish with a couple of coats of a good hard varnish to prevent them from getting all dinged up.

I just ordered a Topper Deluxe Classic stock set for my .45-70.  It's awesome.

Yes, that's a nice looking stock set.  Do they sell that on the website?  Am I getting so old and feeble minded that I missed something.  Got to get a 45-70 barrel  - haven't yet.

You can find the part numbers here.  I got the Topper Deluxe Classic set because I need the recoil pad with the .45-70.

Thanks to you and to Quickdto.  I am planning on sending in the frame from my 243 to have a 45-70 mounted.  This will make for a mighty nice looking gun.

That's a great time to order a stock set, just send em the frame in a small flat rate priority mail box, costs about $10 insured with delivery confirmation, they'll get it in 2-3 days, I haven't sent a frame in with a stock for a long time, always order a stock set at the same time.  ;) And the do sell the BC stock set, that's in the FAQs also, although the part numbers now may have an additional letter or two prefix, so it may be best to call and ask for the right part number before you put it on a barrel order. Or just buy a set in the H&R classifieds here.  ;D

I am with you Swampman.  That is the best stock set that H&R makes.   It looks you got a nicely figured buttstock and not just a piece of straight grained walnut.
